Hi, I’m Rebecca Paterson, a Registered Nurse with over 27 years of experience. I completed my Bachelor of Nursing in 1994 and my graduate year at Western Hospital, Victoria, in 1995 before relocating to North Queensland in 1996.

My early career included diverse clinical roles across emergency, theatre, high dependency, haemodialysis, and remote area nursing. From 1997, I worked in the Haemodialysis Unit at Cairns Base Hospital and helped establish the first Haemodialysis Satellite Unit at Atherton Hospital in 1998. As a Clinical Nurse, I managed the unit, responded to emergencies, and worked closely with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care. I have also presented at professional conferences and delivered education programs for patients, families, and colleagues.

In 2008, I transitioned to general practice nursing at Amaroo Medical Centre, where I worked for 10 years and completed my Immunisation Course. My role included child health, chronic disease management, health assessments, wound care, venesection, IV therapy, care coordination, and patient education.

In 2018, I returned as Clinical Nurse to the Atherton Haemodialysis Satellite Unit and in 2020 completed a Graduate Certificate in Renal Nursing.

Alongside my nursing career, I co-managed a family earthmoving business for over 20 years, developing strong organisational, leadership, and small business management skills. These experiences led me to establish my own service, 

NQ Care to You, based in Mareeba, supporting people with disabilities to live fulfilling and independent lives.

I also have personal experience supporting a family member with a disability. In 2007, I founded the Mareeba Autism Support Group and served as president for eight years, and volunteered in the Special Education Unit at Mareeba State School. 

I am passionate about empowering people through education, respect, and person-centred care.
